Theater Floor Staff

Theater Floor Staff personnel support the management staff in the day-to-day operations of the theater. In any given shift, Floor Staff personnel may work in the box office, concession stand, projection booth and/or at the doorman’s stand. Floor Staff personnel are required to follow the instructions, guidance and direction of management personnel as they pertain to the policies, rules and procedures of the theater.
Floor Staff positions are in-person and require evening and weekend hours. They include shifts during events such as movies, parties, concerts, or other community experiences. Staff members will have the opportunity to experience the event but will not always be able to sit in the auditorium if they are needed for other duties. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age.

Duties Include:
  • Greeting customers and answering questions
  • Selling tickets before the performance starts
  • Checking tickets and showing people to their seats
  • Selling merchandise and refreshments and handling money
  • Supervising the auditorium during the performance
  • Serving hot and cold food and drinks from a kiosk in the foyer
  • Restocking inventory and helping with closing procedures
  • Tidying the auditorium, foyer, restrooms, and other areas at the end of each performance
  • Other duties as assigned

Public Relations Staff

The Public Relations Staff personnel support the administration of the Indiana Theater both online and through on-site administrative tasks. These tasks could include social media work, design, and marketing opportunities. Public Relations Staff personnel are required to follow the instructions, guidance and direction of management personnel as they pertain to the policies, rules and procedures of the theater.

Public Relations Staff positions are a mix of remote and in-person assignments. Remote assignments have flexible hours, while in-person assignments may require evening and weekend hours. Staff members will have the opportunity to experience events but will not always be able to sit in the auditorium if they are needed for other duties.

Duties Include:
  • Updating calendars, scheduling events online, and other public notifications of events
  • Preparing and organizing documents necessary for the administration of the theater
  • Participating in special project teams
  • Designing or updating marketing materials
  • Assisting with administrative tasks necessary to maintain customer records
  • Taking photographs at events and posting to social media

Theater Floor Supervisor

The Theater Floor Supervisor assists the managers, directors, and board members in the operations of the theater. Main duties include shift management, opening procedures, guest management, and completing nightly closing paperwork and duties. This is an hourly position that carries building keys.

Floor Supervisor positions are in-person and require evening and weekend hours. They include shifts during events such as movies, parties, concerts, or other community experiences. Staff members will have the opportunity to experience the event but will not always be able to sit in the auditorium if they are needed for other duties.

Duties Include:
  • Completing tasks assigned to floor staff as necessary
  • Opening building for events
  • Maintaining high quality of guest service, picture presentation, guest safety, and products.
  • Monitoring shift staffing, volunteer, and guest needs
  • Completing shift closing procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Theater Summer Internship

The Downtown Theater project is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Intern for semester or summer periods. As a non-profit dedicated to restoring the Indiana Theater, we rely on our production team to bring our events to life. The ideal candidate will be able to assist our staff with management of the theater in both customer-facing and behind-the-scenes roles. Interns will be trained in software, inventory management, and marketing strategies as well as given opportunities to learn in roles that interest them the most. Availability on some weekends and evenings is a must. Position is part-time with some flexibility of hours and remote work. Position is unpaid, but is eligible for work study and grant funding.
